Iona Wright is a Partner in Walkers’ Regulatory & Risk Advisory Group, based in the British Virgin Islands office, having joined in 2022. She has over 15 years’ experience advising on financial services regulation in the UK, the Cayman Islands, and the BVI.
Iona has extensive expertise in a wide range of BVI regulatory matters, including all forms of licensing and regulatory perimeter analyses, change in control and regulatory transaction support, anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance, the BVI's implementation of OECD-related initiatives including economic substance and the Common Reporting Standard, and the application of the BVI's beneficial ownership and data protection regimes. In her previous onshore work, she was a specialist in fund management, banking and investment firm regulations, senior management remuneration, governance and controls, and ESG investing. She has also spent time on secondment in-house to an investment manager and a global clearing house and exchange.

Iona is a crypto-regulation specialist and plays an active role in the BVI financial services community as a Director of BVI Finance, a member of the International Tax Association's ad-hoc committees, a member of BVI Finance’s Digital Assets Working Group, a steering committee member of the Virgin Islands Virtual Assets Association, founder of Walkers’ BVI Women in Fintech network, and a member of the FSC’s VASP Advisory Committee.
