Ian Muniz is the National Practice Group Leader for the Firm’s Tax Practice. He brings more than three decades of experience in resolving tax disputes and structuring businesses to reduce their tax liabilities. He has handled some of the most complex and abstract tax-related transactions for several of world’s leading industrial and natural resource corporations.
Mr. Muniz provides guidance to several companies on the tax implications of both cross-border and in-country mergers and acquisitions and company reorganizations. He is renowned for his efficient assessment of risks and for recommending creative and practical solutions that help his clients achieve their corporate goals and realize significant tax savings. Mr. Muniz has developed special tax structures, served as principal outside tax counsel and handled hundreds of tax controversy issues for foreign companies operating or investing in Brazil. Valued by his clients for his no-nonsense approach and ability to advise all levels of management, Mr. Muniz has represented companies from around the globe including Flextronics, BHP, Kinross, X Group and Vale.
A recognized authority on Brazilian tax laws and their implications, Mr. Muniz has written several books on tax issues that have been adopted by Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), Ibmec and Insper due to his clear and concise explanation of these complicated regulations, making it a highly valued resource by corporate executives. His peers have also recognized for his unparalleled knowledge and experience and he is repeatedly ranked in the top tier by Chambers & Partners.
Early career experience for Mr. Muniz includes tenure as a tax manager and partner at a top international audit firm.
