Ian advises in all areas of Professional Regulatory Discipline, Fitness to Practice and is an experienced Grade A Criminal Practitioner.
For nearly 30 years Ian was the sole appointed Solicitor for the Police Superintendents Association.
Career
Ian has been involved in all cases that have shaped policing and regulatory governance. He has represented individuals in proceedings at Inquiries and Inquests including: - Marchioness, Stephen Lawrence, Victoria Climbie, Deepcut, Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Al-Fayed, Midland, and Lancet.
Ian successfully represented David Duckenfield, the Match Commander at Hillsborough who faced 95 allegations of Gross Negligence Manslaughter.
Ian has represented professional sportspersons in all types of proceedings, including professional football clubs, players and agents in Regulatory and HMRC matters. Ian represented the football agent which led to the resignation of Sam Alladyce as England Football Manager. He is presently representing one of the UK’s most well-known football players in Crown Court proceedings.
In 2015, Ian was named Police Lawyer of the Year (CI), Criminal Lawyer of the Year (CI). Ian led his team to Regulatory Firm of the Year at the Manchester Legal Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2019. Ian was named Partner of the Year at the MLA in 2020.
