Career
As a partner at Bird & Bird's Helsinki office, Henri Kaikkonen leads the Finnish Intellectual Property Group. His practice encompasses IP litigation, protection and commercialisation of IP rights, and regulatory advice, particularly in the Life Sciences, Medical Devices, and Food & Beverage sectors.
Henri has extensive experience in cross-border disputes involving trademarks, patents, trade secrets, and unfair business practices. His litigation expertise includes preliminary injunctions, invalidity actions, criminal enforcement of IP rights, and IP-related damages.
During his career of over 10 years, Henri has had the privilege to work with the most prestigious brands and technologies. He has managed their international trademark portfolios and ensured that their new products are cleared from third-party IP risks and protected with trademarks and other IP rights, as well as developed several IP strategies and guidelines, such as employee invention policies. Recently, he has been advising more and more clients on data sharing and artificial intelligence, focusing on trade secrets, copyright, and database rights.
Henri is an experienced negotiator of IP-intensive agreements, in particular to develop and license new technologies, and to commercialise creative products. His work in this area spans industries such as mechanical engineering and process technologies, as well as media and entertainment, including film and television production.
He also advises Bird & Bird's clients on regulatory issues in the life sciences, medical devices, and food and beverage sectors. His expertise includes marketing, labeling, and product recalls, often involving administrative proceedings with authorities.
Henri is an active member of the Finnish IP community, currently serving as the secretary of the Finnish Association for Industrial Property Rights. He has also served as secretary and board member of the Finnish Anti-Counterfeiting Group and frequently lectures on IP topics.
