Helmut Preyer is one of the founding partners of Burgstaller Preyer Rechtsanwälte GmbH (bpr.at) and practices law as an attorney since 1987. His exclusive professional focus - as well as the one of his labour law boutique firm (one out of a maximum of three in Austria working exclusively in this area of law concentrating on the employer side) - is on labour and employment law. Helmut mainly advises national and international employer clients as well as managers in this area of the law. Apart from rendering advice to his clients, Helmut also represents clients in all kinds and stages of labour law litigation.

Career

Helmut Preyer and Gerald Burgstaller founded Burgstaller Preyer Rechtsanwälte GmbH in 2001. Previously, Helmut had worked for years in two prominent Austrian law firms (Schönherr Rechtsanwälte GmbH and Cerha Hempel Rechtsanwälte GmbH) where he headed the labour law departments. Prior to his career in Austria, Helmut worked as a Foreign Associate in a law firm in London (Pritchard Englefield & Tobin, 1982 – 1983).

Publications

Apart from publishing professional papers in well renowned employment journals, Helmut also acts as co-editor and co-author of the “Kommentar zum österreichischen Angestelltengesetz” (Commentary on Austrian employment law, S. Auer-Mayer, G. Burgstaller, H. Preyer [eds.], Manz-Verlag, 2007, with regular updates). He is also a co-author of the “Handbuch Arbeitsrecht” (Labour Law Manual, Kuras [ed.], Manz-Verlag, 1997, with regular updates).

Personal

Helmut regularly lectures at seminars. Inter alia, he is Lecturer in the field of employment law of the LL.M study program “Tourism and Law” at the University of Vienna, he lectures at the Seminar “Employment Law Aspects of Management Board and Managing Directors Liability” (Ghezzo Conferences Seminars) and – since many years – provides employment law training for associates in the seminar “Employment Law” at the Anwaltsakademie (Law Academy of the Vienna Bar Association).
