Work Highlights
Mr. Carvajal represented the Spanish company Abengoa as Lead Counsel in an international arbitration filed before an ad-hoc panel under ICSID Convention Arbitration Rules against the United Mexican States for violations of the Bilateral Investment Agreement between Mexico and Spain, obtaining a favorable award of 570 million pesos.
Represented a Mexican company in obtaining environmental impact authorization for the construction and operation of a gold mine in Baja California Sur. This project has been described by federal authorities as an example of how to approach mining projects in Mexico.
Represented the Mexican subsidiary of a United States of America company in obtaining the necessary Federal Environmental Permits, as well as in the process of modifying the Ecological Ordinance applicable to the development of a port project in Veracruz.
Provided legal advice to one of the largest silver and gold mining sites in the South of Mexico, in the state of Oaxaca, on administrative procedures to prove compliance with environmental regulations.
