Eddy Ureña is a Partner at the firm and leads the Litigation practice. His extensive experience and expertise in the legal and regulatory aspects of dispute resolution cover civil, labour, and commercial litigation, as well as arbitration.
He manages one of the largest litigation portfolios in the market, representing clients from sectors such as banking and finance, insurance, real estate, construction, energy, and tourism in complex disputes.
Eddy is deeply involved in the Dominican Republic’s banking and financial sector, handling complex corporate matters on a daily basis, including contract defaults, corporate veil issues, and the recovery of overdue loan portfolios, which may involve mortgages, securities, guarantees, and joint liability arrangements. He has played a key role in advising the country’s largest private banks, providing ongoing counsel regarding their obligations and assisting in the preparation of potential or ongoing litigation.
Recent notable cases include:
- Successfully representing a leading multinational baby products company in a complex breach-of-distribution-contract dispute with a local company;
- Representing a hotel in Puerto Plata in a complex employment litigation case brought by a former executive seeking compensation for unfair dismissal;
- Defending a fiduciary service provider in a lawsuit seeking the dissolution of two trusts related to residential construction projects due to contract breaches and fraud by the construction company;
- Representing one of the leading banks in criminal proceedings and debtor asset seizures; and
- Advising private clients on complex inheritance matters, among others.
Eddy earned his Law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in 2009 and holds a Master’s degree in Civil Procedure from the same institution.
He is an active member of the Dominican Bar Association (Colegio de Abogados de la República Dominicana), the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), the Committee for the Study and Dissemination of Law in Latin America, and the American Bar Association.
He is fluent in English and Spanish.
