All types of intellectual property and information technology law including patents, copyright, designs, trademarks, passing off, trade libel and malicious falsehood, confidential information (including ex-employee cases and restrictive covenants), franchising and licensing, entertainment and media, IT, and database rights as well as general litigation with a significant technical content. Experienced in arbitration and mediation. Regularly appears in UK High Court, Court of Appeal, and UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO). Admitted to Bar of Ireland, 2021. International experience includes: registered legal practitioner in both the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Court and the Unified Patent Court (UPC); acting as an expert on UK intellectual property law in the Southern District of New York; acting as counsel in Bermuda Supreme Court; presenting seminars on behalf of the Singapore Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO).
Career
First Class degree in Chemistry (with Distinction in Quantum Chemistry), Oxford University. Called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1993. Inner Temple Major Scholar. Pegasus Scholar at Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Melbourne, Australia in 1996. Member of Attorney-General's Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown 2010-2015. Appointed Civil Recorder (including Chancery) in Oct 2010; Crime Recorder in Dec 2014; further authorised to hear criminal appeals, May 2021; Deputy High Court Judge in Feb 2015; appointed to Silk in January 2016. French and Japanese spoken, the latter to the Japanese Government's upper intermediate standard.
