He has acted in cases involving murder, terrorism, serious drug and sexual offences, with specialist expertise in disclosure, PII, covert surveillance, DNA, and supergrass informant evidence. He is regularly instructed where complex law or expert testimony requires mastery.

Since taking silk, his practice has expanded to include fraud, corruption, judicial review, and high-value privately funded defence. Regulators also turn to him for advice, particularly on criminal disclosure.

Renowned for achieving results, David is frequently brought in at sentence or appeal to secure the best possible outcome. Most recently, he acted in the Court of Appeal reference by the CCRC in the case of Ben Field (dramatized by the BBC in The Sixth Commandment), the first ever referral on the ground of “exceptional circumstances.”
