David Etherington KC

David is a highly-regarded criminal practitioner with very long experience of working in cases involving homicide, serious organised crime, gang crime, fraud and corruption and the disciplinary regulatory field having been a past legal adviser to both the General Dental Council and the General Optical Council. He is particularly recommended for his tactical abilities and court handling. He enjoys working in a team and is a listening Leader. David has had a hugely diverse client-base over the years and enjoys working with all age groups. He has a great interest and experience in advocacy teaching and is a go-to source for ethical advice, having been a former chair of the Professional Conduct Committee. He also particularly enjoys cases that involve legal challenges. In the last year he has defended a man accused of attempting to murder schoolchildren involving complex legal and psychiatric issues (subsequently resulting in acquittal and conviction for assault occasioning actual bodily harm), a lawyer whom he successfully defended on a charge of racially aggravated assaulted and is presently involved in a case involving the law on drugs and pre-consent in alleged rape. He has been the legal adviser to many dramas and legal ‘reality’ programmes and has been involved in several international corruption cases involving investigations prior to charge.
