Chris Loeber chairs Pryor Cashman’s Insurance Recovery + Counseling Practice. He represents Fortune 500 and other large commercial policyholders in complex insurance disputes across a wide range of industries.

Chris has obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in coverage for policyholders in matters involving first-party property, business interruption, cyber liability, products liability, recall and contamination, directors and officers, errors and omissions, fiduciary liability, and leveraged corporate-owned life insurance policies, among others. His client base encompasses food manufacturers and distributors, family offices, financial services providers, entertainers, oil and gas enterprises, chemical producers, retailers, life sciences companies, franchisors, and other sophisticated entities.

Unlike most coverage lawyers who have represented clients on only one side of the industry, Chris began his career defending multinational insurance carriers. Today, he strictly represents policyholders, who benefit from his carrier-side experience and inside understanding of how insurance companies underwrite policies, value claims and approach lawsuits.

Among many others, Chris has successfully represented:

An international oilfield services provider in numerous suits arising out of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill;

A privately held cybersecurity company in state and federal lawsuits arising from fire-related property damage and business interruption claims;

A privately held spice company in connection with a multi-state, salmonella-related contamination and recall incident;

A national family of healthcare companies in class action-related first-party property, comprehensive general liability and directors and officers insurance coverage disputes across the country;

A multinational retailer in a complex first-party property/business interruption suit arising from a landslide;

A multinational drilling company in a putative class action filed in New York federal court alleging environmental groundwater contamination;

A multinational technology company in connection with a product defect suit filed in New York state court.

While he spends much of his time litigating, arbitrating and mediating complex insurance coverage disputes, Chris is acutely aware that an ounce of counseling “prevention” is worth a pound of litigation “cure.” With that in mind, he works with corporate policyholders and their insurance brokers during the policy purchase and renewal stages to understand and anticipate applicable risks and to negotiate the best insurance policy language available.

Chris also works shoulder-to-shoulder with Pryor Cashman’s Corporate Group to ensure that clients receive comprehensive risk management advice in connection with their corporate transactions.
