Real Estate and Land Use
A trusted advisor to participants in Jersey City and Hudson County real estate development, Charles Harrington has a tremendous knowledge of land use and a stellar reputation for getting development and redevelopment projects off the ground. Developers rely on Chuck for his ability to successfully navigate the intricacies of city government, planning and zoning boards, redevelopment agencies and neighborhood associations in order to move their projects forward.
Chuck advises clients on complex land use, development and redevelopment, permitting and approvals, zoning changes, riparian and condemnation issues, transactional work, construction and acquisition financing, condominium formation and real property tax appeals. He is particularly effective at obtaining both short- and long-term tax abatements for his clients, as well as counseling them on opportunities for public and private financing and other incentive opportunities.
During his long career in real estate and land use, Chuck has completed more than 1,000 land use approvals and redevelopment applications, and obtained approvals for some of the preeminent development projects on the Jersey City waterfront and in New Jersey. He has served as land use counsel to a majority of the major developers of the Jersey City Gold Coast waterfront and represents numerous small to mid-size developers within Jersey City and neighboring municipalities. Chuck’s development approvals include projects ranging from two-family homes to major developments consisting of more than 5,000 residential units; affordable and workforce housing developments with related low-income housing tax credit funding; renovation and conversion of historic residential and commercial properties; and office and hotel developments.
