Since taking silk in 2018, Charles has rapidly developed a busy silk’s practice specialising in ground breaking, complex and high value personal injury and clinical negligence claims, often with an international element. He has been at the forefront of developments in the law relating to secondary victims, fatal accident claims and brain injury.

Claimant and Defendant clients alike value his forensic skills, strong negotiating and persuasive advocacy in sensitive, complex cases. His calm, confident and adaptable manner means he is equally at home representing vulnerable Claimants and the bereaved, as he is acting for leading insurers, NHSR and private insurers in test litigation and defending the most sensitive of claims.

He has a strong following amongst insurers and NHS Resolution in test litigation and dealing with novel points of law and procedure. He has known expertise for Defendants in cases where exaggeration or dishonesty is suspected.

Charles in on the editorial board of Kemp & Kemp: the Quantum of Damages, as well as the Personal Injuries and Quantum Reports. He sits as a Deputy QB Master in the High Court and as a Recorder (Crime and Civil). He has been on the PIBA Executive Committee for two decades, running the education programme and more recently heading up PIBA’s outreach, ED&I initiatives. He is a Bencher of Inner Temple and teaches advocacy, ethics and attends outreach events. He is regularly invited to deliver training across the range of injury and clinical negligence topics for clients and leading industry bodies.
