Inquiries and Health and Safety:
She has in depth experience of public inquiries and Fatal Accident Inquiries. She represents Core Participants in the Sheku Bayoh Inquiry and has advised individuals in other inquiries. She has represented Interested Parties, both individuals and public bodies, in high profile FAIs including, most recently, Carmont and the M9. She gained experience of criminal law as a Procurator Fiscal Depute and has defended clients in criminal trials. She was junior counsel representing the Chief Constable in the M9 Prosecution.
Reparation:
She represents public bodies, insurers and pursuers complex, high value reparation actions relating to public and employer liability, property damage, industrial disease, fatal accidents, sexual abuse, road traffic and medical negligence.
Professional Regulation:
Carla has experience of the Police Appeals Tribunal, has been a member of the Scottish Solicitors Discipline Tribunal and a Legal Adviser to the SSC.
Public Law:
She is a Standing Junior to the Advocate General and is regularly instructed in judicial reviews.
She has expertise policing matters including:
Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, Firearms Licensing, Public Protection, Misconduct, the Police Appeals Tribunal, civil actions (wrongful arrest and assault), deaths in custody, Judicial Review and Data Protection.
