Career

Bernardo has more than 25 years of experience in the areas of maritime and port law, notably in dealing with disputes involving maritime transport of cargo and foreign trade in general: shipowners, charterers, transporters, P&I Clubs, insurance companies, maritime agents, terminals and port operators, shipyards, tradings, shippers and consignees and cargo owners.

He also has a long experience in administrative and judicial litigation, especially towards the Port Authority, Maritime Court and Courts throughout Brazil.

Professional Memberships

Member of several Chambers of Commerce, notably Norwegian and French.

In the French Chamber he is in his third term as Counselor, during the periods of 2014-2016 and 2018-2020, beingre-elected for the period of 2020-2023. He acts as the Coordinator of the Legal Commission since 2011, and is also a mediator in commercial disputes, certified by the Center for Mediation and Arbitration of Paris (CMAP).

Vice-President of the Ibero-American Institute of Maritime Law, Brazilian Section - IIDM-BR for the 2016-2017 biennium and President of the Ibero-American Institute of Maritime Law, Brazilian Section - IIDM-BR for the 2018-2019 biennium, being re-elected for the 2022-2024 biennium.

Member of the International BarAssociation (IBA) since 2012, the Brazilian Maritime Law Association(ABDM) since 2013 , the Ibero-American Institute of Maritime Law (IIDM) since 2008 and the International Associationof Lawyers/Union Internationale des Avocates (UIA), since 2012.

Member of the Board of Directors (Vice-Presidents) of the Brazilian Maritime Law Association (ABDM) for the period of 2021-2024.

Effective member of the Special Commission on Maritime, Port and Customs Law of the Brazilian Bar Association, São Paulo Section (OAB SP) since 2020, and of the Commission on Customs, Maritime and Port Law of the Brazilian Lawyers Institute (IAB) since 2022.

Elected Member for the International Commission of Law of the Brazilian Bar Association, Rio de Janeiro Section (CDINT-RJ) for the period of 2022-2024.
