Ben has specialised in charity law and associated regulatory and governance work since 2006, having worked at Bircham Dyson Bell from 2006 to 2017 and re-joined Broadfield UK (formerly BDB Pitmans) in July 2024.
He has significant experience assisting charities and not-for-profits of all sizes navigate legal and governance challenges in the context of developing legislation and increasingly tight scrutiny by the third sector’s regulators.
Ben advises on a wide range of charity law issues, including charity formation, registration, and incorporation, joint ventures, mergers and collaborations, grant making, fundraising, sponsorship, and commercial participation agreements. Ben is well versed in dealing with relevant regulators, including the Charity Commission and the Privy Council, and providing practical and pragmatic advice where it is needed.
With a commercial licensing background, he also advises on related business and commercial concerns, including the protection and exploitation of charity brands and research.
