Mr. Aruna Samarajewa is an expert in the fields of Dispute Resolution, Litigation, Arbitration, Employment laws, E-commerce, Intellectual Property, Consumer Affairs and Customs Law. With over 25 years of experience, he has developed a strong portfolio of local and international clientele across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Having understood the nuances of the Sri Lankan legal system and its structures, he is a deal execution expert with a strong reputation for delivering practical, commercial solutions to otherwise complex legal issues. He was also involved in a Presidential Commission of Inquiry on certain politically and economically sensitive matters.

Mr. Samarajewa has been instrumental in advising a number of clients across a multitude of sectors including the retail sector, diversified conglomerates, import/export trade, hospitality, manufacturing, construction, banking and finance sectors, whilst also extending their parameters beyond the corporate segment to include non-governmental institutions and embassies. His scope coupled with his ability to deliver tailor made solutions has helped the Firm consolidate its position as a Tier 1 Law Firm in Dispute resolution.

He specialises in employment laws. He advises and acts on behalf of a vast array of clients, including representation at the Labour Tribunals and superior courts. Mr. Samarajewa also specialises in issues relating to the applicability of duty and other levies for software and other forms of intellectual property, and has led the Firm alongside Mr. Chanaka de Silva, PC to improve the performance of the Firm’s Intellectual Property division. He also advises clients on Consumer Protection Laws and the Consumer Affairs Authority Act and represents the Firm’s clients at inquiries before the Consumer Affairs Authority and Magistrate’s Courts.

He has been at the fore-front of a number of noteworthy transactions in the digital space, providing advisory services and end-to-end solutions during setting up of payment gateways and the migration of data into modern digital systems, in a constantly evolving legal landscape of E - commerce. Having specialised in the legal landscape of E - commerce in the country, he authored; “A New Model Contract Law for E - Commerce in Sri Lanka” published by the Australian Journal of Asian Law and has published extensively on the subject, and was a regular contributor to the Lanka Monthly Digest on a number of legal issues.

Mr. Samarajewa was admitted as an Attorney at Law in 1997. He obtained his LL.M from Monash University in 2003, where he specialised in Digital Economy Law.
