Career

He founded his first law firm in Ávila in 1983, where he practiced until 1991, when he was elected mayor of the capital of Ávila, a position he held until 1995. He served as a Senator from 1988 to 1996 and was the Spokesperson of the Popular Parliamentary Group in 1995 and 1996. He was then elected as a national Deputy in four consecutive terms. In the Government of Spain, he served as Minister of Public Administrations, Minister of Justice, and Minister of the Interior from 1999 to 2004.

In 2008, he returned to the practice of law.

In 2011, he initiated, as a founding partner, the creation of the new firm MA Abogados. As a lawyer specialized in Commercial Law, he has advised companies in the energy, technology, logistics, industrial, and insurance sectors. Furthermore, his political career has provided him with extensive knowledge of regulatory matters as well as the functioning of public institutions.
