Practice Areas

Andrew is a partner and head of asbestos litigation at Thompsons Solicitors.

An extremely experienced and knowledgeable personal injury solicitor with an impressive track-record of getting substantial compensation for victims of asbestos-related disease in the quickest time, Andrew has been involved in ground-breaking cases.

In addition to dealing with cases across Cumbria and the North East, as national practice lead Andrew supervises the work of Thompsons asbestos teams around the country and is responsible for case management.

With 18 years’ experience of handling difficult, challenging and - more often than not - tragic cases through the courts and to the House of Lords, Andrew has gained a reputation as a lawyer who is sensitive, thorough and professional.

Andrew’s extensive knowledge of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, gives him the ability to work at speed to get the maximum compensation, particularly during the lifetime of those with a malignant diagnosis.

Professional Memberships

Andrew is an assessor for the Law Society’s Occupational Injury Accreditation Scheme, a Law Society panel member and a senior litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

Personal

A tenacious champion of his clients, Andrew pursues employers and insurance companies with a dogged determination, despite the increasingly aggressive challenges they put up which make life even more difficult for claimants. Whether tracing employers and their insurers who no longer are in business, or finding the best medical expert, Andrew is hugely supportive to clients and their families.

Getting the best possible outcome for his clients in some of the most tragic cases is what Andrew finds most rewarding. In his spare time, Andrew likes to spend time with him family and travelling. The Lake District is a favourite place.

Work Highlights

Secured damages for Sandra Whitehead who was exposed to asbestos when her former husband, a fitter at a Tyneside shipyard, brought asbestos dust home on his work clothes.

Successfully tracked down two companies that had dissolved years before to secure compensation for an electrician who was exposed to asbestos while working as an electrician in London.

Secured damages for the son of a woman who died from mesothelioma after coming into contact with asbestos dust on her husband's work clothes. Andrew had previously successfully run the case of the former shipyard fitter, who also died from mesothelioma.
