Andrew Blacoe

Andrew is a Managing Partner based in our Tokyo office. He leads our Projects, Energy and Mining practice in Japan and also serves as the Asia Head of Corporate.

Andrew has over 20 years of experience, including more than 15 years advising on the ground in Japan in the oil & gas, LNG, metals and mining and conventional power sectors. He is valued by clients for being at the forefront of changes in the energy transition sector, including decarbonisation, electrification, sustainable energy and ESG, as well as for his ability to anticipate client needs in the rapidly evolving shift towards sustainable energy solutions. He is a highly experienced transactional lawyer who works primarily on M&A and development projects in these sectors.

Andrew maintains strong professional relationships with several of the firm’s major Japanese clients. He regularly represents Japanese trading houses, oil and gas companies and public utilities on large-scale energy projects in multiple jurisdictions.

Andrew graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Durham and is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and in England & Wales. He is also licensed to advise as a Gaikokuho Jimu Bengoshi (Registered Foreign Lawyer) in Japan.
