Andrés Mochales

Andrés has more than 30 years of experience as a litigator, with expertise in all type of proceedings (including financial, civil, arbitration and bankruptcy). Andrés has a deep understanding of the Financial Institutions sector and his core area of specialisation is representing these entities in financial litigation procedures or defending their interest in major insolvency proceedings happening in Spain. He also acts as an arbitrator and as a lawyer before the most prestigious Courts of Arbitration in Spain.

Andrés is described by clients as "a great litigator" who is "direct and does a very good job in the courts," while others emphasize that "he's a very respected lawyer in the financing sector and a very important player on the side of financial entities."

Andrés joined the Madrid office as a partner in 2007 as a result of the merger of Simmons & Simmons and Mochales & Palacios (firm which he founded in 1986). Prior to joining the firm he was a legal advisor in Corporación Bancaria, S.A. as well as in the Fondo de Garantía de Depósitos en Establecimientos Bancarios (the Fund for guarantying bank´s deposits) where he acquired extensive experience in insolvency law and litigation, actively intervening in the 80’s bank crisis in Spain.

He currently teaches commercial contracts in the LLM of the Instituto de Empresa, a leading business school in Madrid. He is also a professor in the IE Advanced Course of Insolvency Law, as well as member of the Academic Organization Committee of the yearly National Insolvency Congress organized by Instituto de Empresa -addressed to judges, professors, lawyers and experts in bankruptcy.
