Ali brings international experience to MAR Law. Ali was previously a counsel in the US law firm Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle. Prior to that, he was a partner at a leading and ranked Omani law firm. He has been actively working on matters in Oman since 2011. He acts on both contentious and non-contentious matters.
Ali often acts on the full lifecycle of major projects and regularly handles commercial disputes and arbitrations. He handles disputes and international institutional arbitration such as International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) and Abu Dhabi Commercial Conciliation and Arbitration Centre (ADCCAC). Ali has acted for listed and privately held companies and government clients on some of the most significant disputes and international arbitrations.
His experience on projects and project finance includes acting for procurers, developers and lenders (comprising commercial banks, international financial institutions, developmental banks and Islamic financial institutions) on major projects in transportation, power and water such as IPP and IWP(P), oil and gas, telecommunication and industrial sectors. He has acted on several mining projects and the establishment of chemical plants. He has also acted as part of the advisory consortium advising the Government of Oman on number of public private partnership (PPP) mandates.
Career
Ali was called to the Bar in England and Wales and is admitted in Pakistan. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb). He holds a LL.B., with honours from the University of London. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from City University of London and a Certificate of Legislative Drafting from University of Boston School of Law. He attended the Oxford Fintech Programme at Saïd Business School and is an alumnus of the Georgetown Leadership Seminar. He has a professional certificate in corporate finance from Columbia Business School.
