Career
Alex Roussos is the managing partner of Dentons' Dubai office, and co-head of the Middle East banking and finance practice.
He has over twenty years' experience advising on debt, hybrid and equity-linked capital markets transactions. Alex's broad experience has seen him advising governments and government-related entities, all major investment banking clients and large corporate entities across the Middle East on matters including Medium Term Note, convertible bond, hybrid capital and Sukuk issuances, ESG issuances, consent solicitations and structured finance deals, as well as listings on local and international stock exchanges. Alex is also a leading practitioner in the field of regulatory capital and has acted on some of the most high profile deals in this space in the GCC.
Alex is ranked Band 1 by Chambers Global 2022 for Capital Markets: Debt – United Arab Emirates and "Highly Regarded" by IFLR1000 2024/5 for Capital Markets: Debt.

DAMAC: Advising Damac on a consent solicitation from the holders of the outstanding US$400 million trust certificates due 2023 issued in April 2018 by Alpha Star Holding V Limited.
Majid Al Futtaim hybrid issuance: Advising Citi, HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank acting as global co-ordinators and ADCB, Citi, Emirates NBD Capital, FAB, HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank acting as joint lead managers on the successful issuance of US$500 million Reset Subordinated Perpetual Notes by MAF Global Securities Limited, an spv issuer incorporated in the Cayman Islands. The issuance was irrevocably guaranteed, on a joint and several basis, by Majid Al Futtaim Holding LLC and Majid Al Futtaim Properties LLC.
Islamic Development Bank (IsDB): Advising IsDB on the issuance of US$2.5 billion trust certificates under its US$25 billion trust certificate issuance programme, which marked the largest sustainable sukuk issuance globally, the IsDB's largest issuance to date and also its second sustainable sukuk issuance. Also advised the IsDB in relation to its first sustainable sukuk issuance of US$1.5 billion, which was the first issuance globally in the format of a sukuk aimed at raising proceeds to tackle the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and a green sukuk issuance of €1 billion, which was the first green sukuk in the world to be issued by a AAA-rated institution and also the first EUR-denominated green sukuk globally.
Qatar International Islamic Bank (Q.P.S.C.): Advising on its issuance of US$300 million perpetual Tier 1 capital certificates. The transaction represented the first international Basel III-compliant Additional Tier 1 issuance from Qatar.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, BNP Paribas, Citi, Dubai Islamic Bank, Emirates NBD, First Abu Dhabi Bank and HSBC: Advising the managers on the issuance of Majid Al Futtaim's US$600 million 3.9325% Green Trust Certificates due 2030. This was the second green sukuk issuance by Majid Al Futtaim, who intend to use the proceeds to back environmentally-friendly projects in areas such as renewable energy and sustainable water management.
