Abdelmajeed Zwairi

Abdelmajeed Zwairi is a Partner at MAS Law and leads the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice. He represents banks, financial institutions, corporates, family businesses and individuals in complex, high-value disputes before the UAE onshore courts, handling matters from first instance through appeal and to the Courts of Cassation. His practice combines courtroom advocacy with strategic advice, helping clients assess risk early, protect their position, and pursue practical commercial outcomes.

Banking and Finance Litigation

Banking disputes form a core part of Abdelmajeed's practice. He acts for local and international financial institutions in recovery actions, financing disputes, guarantee claims and enforcement proceedings, as well as defending banks against claims brought by customers and counterparties. He has particular experience in Islamic finance disputes, where he advises on the enforceability of Sharia-compliant structures such as Murabaha and Ijara before the UAE courts.

Recent work includes representing a UAE Islamic bank in a Murabaha financing dispute exceeding AED 246 million, taken through to the Court of Cassation; acting for an international bank in a USD 135 million trade finance dispute before the Sharjah Federal courts; and representing a development bank in a USD 36 million aircraft finance dispute at cassation stage.

Commercial Litigation

Abdelmajeed advises clients on a broad range of commercial disputes, including contractual claims, shareholder and partnership disputes, agency and distribution disputes, and claims arising from joint ventures and business relationships. He works closely with clients to develop litigation strategy at every stage, from pre-action advice and precautionary attachments through to appeals and cassation.

Intellectual Property Litigation

He represents brand owners in disputes involving trade names, trademarks and unfair competition. Abdelmajeed secured a landmark judgment before the Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation in Commercial Appeal No. 375/2026, establishing five judicial principles on trade name and trademark protection. These principles now guide courts across the UAE and strengthen the position of rights holders nationwide.

Real Estate Litigation

Abdelmajeed represents landlords, tenants, developers and investors in property disputes, including rental claims, off-plan purchase disputes, and disputes over title and ownership. His recent work includes an appeal that resulted in a fifteen-fold increase on the first-instance award for the client.

Enforcement of Judgments and Arbitral Awards

He advises clients on enforcing judgments and arbitral awards in the UAE, including execution proceedings, asset tracing and attachment, and challenges to enforcement. This allows clients to move from a favourable judgment to actual recovery with the same team.

Abdelmajeed is known for his detailed preparation and his experience before the Courts of Cassation, where outcomes can set precedent beyond the individual case. He works in both Arabic and English, which allows him to bridge the gap between international clients and the UAE court system, explaining local procedure clearly and presenting clients' cases effectively before Arabic-language courts.

1. Enforcement of a US judgment in Dubai: Obtained an execution order from the Dubai Courts recognising a Texas Court judgment, despite no enforcement treaty between the USA and the UAE, by successfully arguing reciprocity.

2. Trademark precedent: Secured Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation judgment in Commercial Appeal No. 375/2026, establishing five nationwide principles on trade name and trademark protection.

3. Islamic banking cassation: Represented a UAE Islamic bank in an AED 246M+ Murabaha financing dispute through to the Court of Cassation.

4. Piercing the corporate veil: Successfully held a company's shareholders personally liable for the company's obligations, a rare outcome before the UAE courts.

5. Trade finance dispute: Acted for an international bank in a USD 135M trade finance dispute before the Sharjah Federal courts.

Abdelmajeed has been practising law since 2008, with more than 15 years focused on UAE onshore litigation. Before joining MAS Law, he handled the local dispute practice at Dentons and held senior roles at Galadari Advocates & Legal Consultants and SAT & Co. He is regularly appointed to provide expert reports on UAE law in ICC arbitration proceedings and before foreign courts.
