Firm Overview:
López Escobar Del Río was founded on January 1st, 2017 by two former partners of Harasic & Lopez (Julián López and José Ignacio Escobar), and one former partner of DyP abogados (Jorge Del Río). Then, in mid 2017, Felipe Leiva joined the new firm.

In fact, over the last years, Julián López has integrated the Board of Directors of the Chilean Bar Association (www.colegioabogados.cl), while Julián López, José Ignacio Escobar, and Felipe Leiva are members of the Ethics Tribunal of the same organization. Furthermore, all of the firm partners are members of Asociación por las Libertades Públicas (Association for Public Liberties), where José Ignacio Escobar and Felipe Leiva have served as Chairman of its Board of Directors. In addition, Julian Lopez is a law professor at the University of Chile and José Ignacio Escobar at Pontificia Universidad Católica’s law school.

Last year, Ms. Soledad Krause joined the firm. She has over 20 years of experience in litigation in civil, administrative, and criminal matters.

She serves as arbitrator and counselor of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and lectures Criminal Law at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and in postgraduate programs in Criminal Law, Administrative Law, and Legal Argumentation.

The firm’s Arbitration and Litigation practice represents a wide variety of clients in all kinds of civil, commercial, constitutional, and administrative litigation. The firm’s expertise includes corporate and contractual conflicts destined to gain compensations or annulments of legal acts. Disputes related to property recovery or possession, and torts arising from accidents, frauds, and infringement of fundamental rights. Clients also retain the firm for disputes relating to DBB and EPC construction contracts, and controversies before the State Administration, including Municipalities, and administrative proceedings. Lastly, the firm partners have experience as arbitrators. In particular, Jorge Del Río is a very demanded arbitrator of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Chilean Chamber of Commerce.

Criminal Proceedings:
López, Escobar, Del Río has vast experience working as defence attorneys and complainants in criminal cases on economic and tax crimes, infringements to the Chilean Law on Securities Market, criminal responsibility of legal entities, technological and environmental crimes, crimes against privacy, integrity, sexual crimes and responsibility for negligent acts, among others. The firm has also taken part in cases of execution of simulated transactions, disclosure of false information to the market, and price manipulation. The firm is renowned for its white-collar, bribery, and tax fraud practice.
