For over 20 years, Isler Dare, P.C. has been Virginia’s premier management-side labor, employment and employee benefits law firm. The firm was formed in 1997 when Steven Ray and Edward (Eddie) Isler, having been associated previously with large national law firms (Epstein Becker and Gibson Dunn, respectively), concluded that they could better serve their management clients by opening their own practice. Main Areas of Practice:
Sound Counsel & Legal Advice: Isler Dare focuses on partnering with clients to anticipate issues and to develop sound and practical solutions in the increasingly complex realm of employment and employee benefits law. The firm provides counsel to employers in the following areas: dealing with difficult or non-performing employees; responding to claims of discrimination, harassment, or retaliation; offering counsel on labor-management relationships; advising on terminations; navigating laws covering employee illnesses, disabilities and absences, including the FMLA, ADA and workers comp; ensuring compliance with wage and hour issues (FLSA and SCA); and designing and implementing a wide range of employee benefits, including retirement plans, health and welfare plans and executive compensation arrangements.
When employment or employee benefits litigation ensues, despite counseling, Isler Dare attorneys serve as experienced litigators in defending employers against the often meritless claims that are asserted. The firm aggressively defends its clients in all of the employment and benefits areas in which they provide advice and counsel.
Business Tort & Non-Compete Litigation:
The firm specializes in business tort and related litigation involving employee duty of loyalty, trade secrets and noncompetition or non-solicitation agreements. The attorneys of the firm have been involved in dozens of injunction hearings often associated with such litigation.
The firm’s partners are experienced labor attorneys who effectively support employers in counsel and litigation related to: unfair labor practice charges; negotiation of CBAs; grievance and arbitration; and the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), including union organizing issues and union avoidance strategy.
Isler Dare assists private and public employers with employee benefits issues by designing and implementing a wide range of qualified and non-qualified retirement arrangements, health and welfare plans and executive compensation arrangements. The firm also represents plan sponsors in benefit claim disputes; plan audits and compliance matters with the IRS and DOL; the redesign of benefit plans to comply with Federal health reform and other legal and regulatory developments; the employee benefit implications of business transactions; and contract review and negotiation of vendor contracts supporting benefit plans.
Prevention & Training:
Isler Dare assists its clients in avoiding potential employment claims by reviewing personnel policies and practices, crafting employment agreements and restrictive covenants, and providing training on best practices in managing employees legally and effectively.
Throughout its 21 year history, the firm’s attorneys have served in significant roles in state and local bar activities. Eddie Isler recently completed a two year term as chair of the labor relations and employment law section of the Virginia Bar Association, and Steve Brown currently serves on the Executive Council of that Section. Mark Dare and Steve Ray are both past Presidents of the Fairfax Bar Association, the state’s largest county bar association, and Steve Ray is the immediate past chair of the Virginia State Bar Standing Committee on Professionalism.
