Residing in Bangkok and Tokyo, Hunton’s Asia-Pacific practice partners with clients on energy and infrastructure project development and finance, civilian nuclear power programs, banking and commercial lending, financial services, mergers and acquisitions, telecoms and regulatory matters. Our team of more than 30 internationally and locally qualified practitioners has represented multinational corporations, financial institutions, governments, individuals, and a broad range of other entities in a wide variety of commercial transactions across Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia, as well as in other jurisdictions throughout the region, such as China, Japan, South Korea, India, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Mongolia, and Taiwan.
Latin America:
Hunton has handled matters in every Latin American and major Caribbean country and has established a unique niche serving as a bridge for U.S. and European clients into the region. Most lawyers in the practice are Spanish fluent and understand the intricacies of local business culture and the underlying legal framework. The practice is led from Miami but draws on other offices across the globe.
International Arbitration & Litigation:
Hunton represents clients before major arbitral institutions globally, including investor state and commercial arbitrations. Through experience, a multidisciplinary approach, and international contacts, the firm assists clients in limiting the uncertainty of transnational litigation; helps assess and manage disputes pre-litigation by advising on strategy and tactics; and, once claims are filed, prosecutes, manages and supervises arbitration or multijurisdictional litigation.
Energy & Infrastructure:
Hunton has over a century of experience advising on complex energy and infrastructure projects. In project finance, the firm represents commercial banks and institutional lenders, development finance institutions, export credit agencies, and project developers. The firm advises on all aspects of development, acquisition, financing and divestiture of power and renewable energy, water and sewer, telecommunications, transportation, and other infrastructure projects, as well as the formation of wholesale market energy systems and capital markets and commercial and structured financings across the U.S., Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
Environmental:
Hunton has been deeply involved in environmental law since the implementation of the first modern environmental statutes in the early 1970s. The firm covers environmental matters impacting clients across the U.S. and overseas. Widely recognised for expertise in air, water, waste, natural resources, and chemical regulation, this practice has long been at the center of environmental policymaking, regulatory compliance, and precedent-setting litigation. Matters range from international, federal and state regulatory proceedings, compliance counseling, and enforcement defense to cutting-edge complex, multi-party litigation; first-of-its kind environmental commodity and infrastructure investment transactions; and more.
Banking & Finance:
