GRINBERG CORDOVIL was established by experienced lawyers in the antitrust and international trade areas aiming render specialised services and innovative solutions for both national and foreign clients. The firm is focused on deeply understanding the client’s industry, market and needs. As a recognition, GCA represents many clients listed within the Fortune 500 in several markets and industries, including the financial sector, online and technology, entertainment and telecommunication, automobile and auto parts, pharmaceutical and health care, chemical and logistics, food, beverage, tobacco, electronical and machinery industries.

The firm later expanded its areas of practice to others closely related to the original ones, keeping the idea of customised, specialised and tailor-made services. Bearing this in mind, the anticorruption, technology and digital markets areas were incorporated to provide synergy to existing clients and developing new possibilities. More recently, given the raise of competition damage lawsuits, GCA has boosted its litigation team.

Main Area of Practice:  

Competition / Antitrust: 

The firm has solid and recognised know-how in assisting clients in all aspects of competition law. The firm’s experience includes:

■ Complex mergers and acquisitions, horizontal mergers, vertical integrations, joint ventures, associate agreements and challenges to transactions before the Brazilian Antitrust Authority

■ Administrative proceedings and/or lawsuits before Courts in matters related to infringing conducts such as cartel, refusal to sell, sham litigation, price discrimination, resale price imposition, predatory or abusive pricing

■ Preventive assistance and advise

■ Implementing compliance programs. The firm also represents clients in competition damage actions.

International Trade / WTO: 

GCA actively represents the domestic industry, importers, exporters, associations, and governments in antidumping, subsidies, and safeguard investigations, as well as tariff changes, including the List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff – LETEC. The firm also works extensively in providing legal services to clients before:

■ The Special Secretary of Foreign Trade and International Matters of the Ministry of Economy (SECINT/ME)

■ The Chamber of Foreign Trade (CAMEX)

■ Other bodies of the Ministry of Economy, such as the Office of Economic Supervision (SEAE) as well as preparing advisory services and consultation in foreign trade

Compliance: 

The work undertaken encompasses representing clients in pleas before governmental agencies or leniency agreements. GCA’s professionals have conducted numerous internal investigations and risk assessments, carried out internal training sessions, and prepared integrity programs within Brazilian guidelines. GCA also represents clients on investigations carried out by agencies, such as the Internal Affairs Office, Attorney General’s Office, and the Court of Auditors, as well as in judicial cases, notably related to requests for redress from damages suffered.

Technology & Digital Markets:  

In GCA, the area focuses on advising clients in technology related matters and regulation in Brazil. The firm is also organised to render legal services in the structuring of start-ups, websites, e-commerce platforms, drones and internet connected devices (IoT) in Brazil.
