Company & Commercial: A specialist team with an understanding of commercial objectives and trading methods. It deals in the acquisition and disposal of companies and unincorporated businesses and general commercial contracts. It has a growing specialism in complex intellectual property issues.
Commercial Dispute Resolution: The team deals with contractual disputes involving national and international content with particular expertise in communications, engineering and intellectual property. The team has a thriving professional negligence practice acting for both businesses and individuals in claims against solicitors, accountants, surveyors and financial advisors.
Employment: With a growing reputation, the employment team has a strong contentious and non-contentious practice in this fast changing area of law. It has considerable experience in advising high net worth employees on both dismissal and discrimination as well as negotiating service and compromise agreements.
Private Client Litigation: The department undertakes high value complex litigation around property ownership and professional negligence. The department is also skilled in dealing with complex family based disputes where one party has difficulties in compromising.
Family: This well recognised team, led by Kim Beatson, offers expertise in all areas of family law with emphasis on children and finance. The team has wide experience in international financial matters including freezing injunctions in multiple jurisdictions. Well known for pioneering alternatives to litigation, the team operates one of the most highly regarded mediation and collaborative law services in London. The firm is known for its expertise in advising gay and lesbian clients on matters concerning cohabitation agreements, civil partnerships and relationship breakdown.
Personal Injury: The firm’s claimant personal injury team is recognised as one of the leaders in the UK with David Marshall and Jenny Kennedy top ranked in this field. The team is known for its extremely thorough approach to investigations and for its outstanding results. The firm has particular expertise in catastrophic brain and spinal cord injury, amputation claims, psychiatric injury and other high value or complex cases.
Clinical Negligence: Anthony Gold has one of the largest teams in London with two members of the AvMA specialist clinical negligence panel and four members of the Law Society panel. One of the partners is a doctor and two are former nurses. The team has particular expertise in claims involving cerebral palsy and brain, spinal cord, orthopaedic and psychiatric injuries.
Housing: At the forefront of housing law for many years and with a team including a number of leading specialists, Anthony Gold deals with housing matters of all kinds, including disrepair, possession and homelessness. Andrew Brookes, a leading practitioner, heads the team with drive and commitment.
Public Law: The team is renowned for challenging the decisions of local authority housing departments, as well as all other aspects of local authority and other public body decision making, particularly decisions relating to social services and community care.
Property Dispute Resolution: Acting for both residential and commercial landlords, tenants and agents this specialist team finds solutions to what can otherwise be entrenched positions and is well known for its work on new legislation. With a particular specialism in HMOs, acting for residential landlords and agents, David Smith is policy director of the Residential Landlords Association.
Leasehold Services: Headed by Ian Mitchell, Anthony Gold’s four lawyer department empowers groups of flat owners to compel their landlord to sell the freehold interest or to take control of their building’s management. The firm acts for freeholders, intermediate landlords and tenants and is highly experienced in all aspects of enfranchisement work.
Property: The highly experienced property team, which is spread over all three offices, was one of the first to secure a qualification to the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme. Headed by Stephen Whitaker, the department is strong in all areas of transactional work, residential and commercial, with particular specialism in property development and financial and investment work for retailers, investors and landlords.
Wills, Trusts, Tax & Probate: The growing team, which has a presence across each of the firm’s three offices, benefits from the experience of two members of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and specialises in tax and succession planning for business owners, families and individuals whilst also acting in the administration of trusts and estates.
Contentious Probate: The firm has expertise in will disputes, including challenges as to capacity, proper execution and undue influence. The team also has a valued reputation in dealing with complex multi-party Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975 cases. The team regularly acts in claims against trustees and executors for compensation or removal. The team of six lawyers, has three full members of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Lawyers.
Court of Protection: The Court of Protection team has extensive experience of working with vulnerable persons. Members of this team are regularly instructed where there are intra-family disputes involving the finances of persons lacking capacity. They also have experience in complex welfare and deprivation of liberty cases. The administration of funds and property is dealt with by three levels of fee earners across two sites so costs are kept proportionate to the complexity of the task. Where a fund is sufficient it is managed so that the income and expenditure are such that the fund will last the person’s lifetime. Funds are invested by the team’s panel IFAs who are selected for their knowledge of this specialist area of work. The department is regularly instructed by several government agencies and London Boroughs and is on their approved contractors list.
