Administrative & Public Law in London (Bar)

Ranking Tables

The Chambers and Partners Administrative and Public Law table exists to recognize the cream of the London Public Law Bar. Judicial review comes in all shapes and sizes, ranging from the major constitutional cases and human rights challenges, through planning and local government work, to the regulation of business and competition. The leading barristers in this market, and those appearing in our table, will have practices spanning a number of these sectors, or may simply attract instruction in the most prominent cases in their particular field. Above all, we are seeking to recognize the lawyers who have contributed most to the development of the legal framework governing the actions of the state.

The constitutional legal landscape has been dominated in recent years by the monumental ‘Brexit’ cases of Miller and Cherry; now the eyes of all public lawyers will be fixed on the clauses on judicial review and the Human Rights Act in the Conservative manifesto. Other notable cases in this arena have clarified the law around criminal sentencing, the conduct of public inquiries, immigration and asylum, the arms trade, the expansion of Heathrow, the status of the Chagos islands, and many other issues.
