Foreign desks

Omar Puertas in Shanghai leads a team of Spanish-qualified lawyers based in both Shanghai and Beijing. The team assists Spanish corporates and Chinese investors with corporate restructurings, cross-border M&A and the structuring of new joint ventures.

Cani Fernández is highly regarded by peers for her work on EU competition mandates on behalf of a host of Spanish and international companies, including cross-border merger control procedures. She divides her time between the firm's Madrid and Brussels offices.

Peers describe Federico Roig as a "well-known practitioner who has made his mark in Madrid." He possesses particular knowledge of the infrastructure, energy and transportation areas, and regularly advises on transactions with a private equity element to them.

Javier Villasante is appreciated by clients for his "wide experience, skills and knowledge base, which is useful for the co-ordination and resolution of complex and multidisciplinary matters." He played a leading role in the advice to 3i Group on its sale of Grupo Mémora Servicios Funerarios to Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan.

Juan Aguayo receives praise from peers for his practice, which includes noteworthy expertise in public M&A. "His main strengths are his long-standing experience, deep knowledge and negotiation skills,"notes one impressed client.

Kai Christian Fischer leads cross-border M&A matters from his base in the firm's Barcelona office. He stands out for his work advising German clients on investment transactions in Spain, aided by his dual German-Spanish qualification.

Raimundo Segura handles a variety of mandates, including M&A, LBOs and company spin-offs, with notable activity on behalf of family-owned companies. One client highlights his straightforward approach, noting: "He's our most trusted adviser. He's very solid and honest: he never tells you just what you want to hear, he's always very careful to tell the truth."

Víctor Xercavins is well regarded for his key role in large and sophisticated transactions, including cross-border deals. Standout mandates include his advice to Quaker Chemical on its acquisition of Houghton International and its subsidiaries.
