Tax Law:
EY Law’s tax law team includes leading practitioners in various areas of tax law and tax litigation, customs and excise and international trade law. The team has experience in all areas of tax, including corporate tax, human capital, international tax, transaction tax, sales tax, customs and excise. EY Law advises clients on the application of direct and indirect taxes to a broad range of transactions and structures, including domestic and cross-border acquisitions, divestitures, corporate re-organizations and financing transactions. EY Law assists clients with transfer pricing documentation, advance pricing agreements, competent authority requests, advance income tax rulings, indirect tax planning, voluntary disclosures and rectifications as well as with submissions to the Department of Finance of Canada on proposed legislation. EY Law's tax controversy and counsel practice has an impressive record of efficiently resolving clients’ disputes with federal and provincial tax authorities. EY Law’s litigators have appeared before all levels of Canadian courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, Federal Court of Appeal, Federal Court, Tax Court of Canada and various provincial Superior and Appellate Courts, as well as before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) in international trade matters. The customs and excise practice represents clients on customs law value for duty, tariff classifications, export controls/ sanctions and import controls and duty relief. The firm also advises on cross border VAT (GST) and transfer pricing from a customs and cross-border VAT perspective. EY Law advises on all aspects of international trade law, including anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguard matters before the CBSA and CITT as well as other NAFTA and WTO/ GATT related matters, including investment restrictions and the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). EY Law augments its controversy resolution services with access to the insight of colleagues at EY, including a number of former high-ranking individuals in the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and the Department of Finance – including the former Assistant Commissioner of Appeals for the CRA, former senior members of the International Tax Services Office and former senior members of Canada’s Competent Authority Services team – as well as actuaries, economists, certified business valuators, scientists, engineers and industry-focused professionals.
Business Immigration:
EY Law’s business immigration group consists of lawyers and professionals who focus on US and Canadian immigration law. Integrated with EY’s global network of human resources, immigration and tax professionals, the group is positioned to provide insight into the tax and immigration risks for everything from short-term business travel to longer term relocation.
EY Law’s Canadian immigration lawyers and professionals assist on a full range of Canadian business immigration matters, including business travel assessments, temporary resident visas, work permits and permanent residence applications. EY Law’s licensed US immigration attorneys help with US business immigration matters, including nonimmigrant petitions and applications, green card processing including labour certification and immigrant petitions, as well as business visitor entries.
Business Law:
EY Law’s business law services team works closely with EY’s global network to assist clients with their corporate and partnership law advisory needs, including corporate re-organizations, mergers, financings and joint ventures, and documentary services including commercial contracts, employment contracts and policies and corporate secretarial services.
