THE FIRM

Cambridge Family Law Practice specialises exclusively in private family law matters. Partners Gail Marchant-Daisley, Adam Moghadas, Simon Bethel, Tricia Ashton, Jeremy Ford and Kathryn Evans provide exceptional depth and breadth of expertise and are all highly regarded in the region, and nationally. CFLP has established itself as a clear leader in the field of family law within East Anglia - and beyond. All the partners are well-known within the wider family law community.

Cambridge Family Law Practice is a different sort of family law firm. Its partner-led make-up means that every client gets the personal, expert service from a dedicated partner. The partners work separately or together depending on the demands of the client and the individual case. The firm has a vibrant client base in East Anglia and London, also drawing clients from throughout the UK, Europe, the US - and beyond - on recommendation and by reputation. Clients and referring professionals alike know that CFLP’s partners act decisively, give clear and practical advice and pride themselves on the tailored service they are able to provide for each client. The ability to conduct the advocacy for clients is a huge benefit which clients appreciate. Founding partner, Gail Marchant-Daisley, set up the origins of what is now Cambridge Family Law Practice over 20 years ago. She is recognised as a leading light in family law circles.

PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK

Cambridge Family Law Practice has particular expertise in family disputes involving substantial assets, often including high-value or overseas trusts, pensions and family businesses. Partner Tricia Ashton has been praised for her forensic approach to complex matters. She is widely recognised for her strategic mind and ability to quickly translate complex material into options and solutions for clients. She was appointed to a judicial role in 2022 and now sits as a Recorder on the South Eastern Circuit.

The partners also have extensive experience in the preparation of pre-nuptial, post-nuptial and cohabitation agreements, often which include international elements and multi-jurisdictional considerations. Partner Kathryn Evans joined the firm at the start of 2022 and brought with her a wealth of experience in this regard, much of which emanated from her time as a senior lawyer working across the London and regional offices of a national law firm.

The partners are highly experienced in dealing with private law children matters, and CFLP is one of the most experienced firms in the country in the law where it applies to same-gender relationships. Partner Jeremy Ford is renowned for his work in complex children matters, including assisted reproduction and surrogacy cases. He recently - successfully - represented same-sex couple Sarah Osborne and Helen Arnold, who had a baby through IVF in 2014. Osborne had to adopt her child after a registrar wrongly told her that her name was not allowed on the birth certificate as the document could only name a child’s mother and their father. The High Court revoked the adoption order and quashed the original birth certificate.

The firm is proud to offer a full choice of dispute resolution options for clients. The partners are adept at negotiation, court advocacy and in collaborative practice. The firm offers a private mediation service including the ability to directly consult with children in mediation, which is highly regarded by other specialist family lawyers. Simon Bethel is one of the first qualified arbitrators in private children matters, complementing his then role as Chair of Resolution’s Children Committee. Jeremy Ford (having been appointed as an arbitrator at the same time) brings his background and experience from CAFCASS Legal and as a mediator to his role as a specialist in this area.

Partner Adam Moghadas has extensive involvement in family law organisations, such as Resolution (former Chair & present Press Officer, Cambridge & West Suffolk Region) and the Cambridge Family Dispute Resolution Group, is a Director of Cambridge and Ely Children’s Contact Centres, is a member of the Cambridge Domestic Abuse Forum and a White Ribbon Ambassador.
