WORK UNDERTAKEN


Personal Injury: Members have an excellent reputation for handling complex and high value catastrophic injuries cases (including spinal and head injuries) for both claimants and defendants. Other areas include, clinical negligence, complex pain disorders, amputation cases, industrial disease, insurance fraudulent claims and Travel and International Personal Injury.


Clinical Negligence:Members have considerable breadth of experience including claims arising out of consent issues, failures in diagnosis, delays in diagnosis, negligent surgery, ophthalmic care, obstetrics, anaesthetics, complex multi-disciplinary cases, and Inquests involving Article 2. Members also deal with cross boarder claims for medical negligence and involving jurisdictional issues relating to medical treatment abroad.


Employment & Discrimination: Constantlyregarded as the best Employment Chambers outside of London. Members are regularly instructed in complex and high-profile litigation claims involving Whistleblowing, Discrimination and Equal Pay and Commercial Employment cases. Representing individual employees, trade unions, private and public employers, government departments, NHS organisations, local authorities, universities, and employers' associations. Members undertake internal disciplinary hearings and have a comprehensive Team of expert Mediators.


Business and Property: The focus of our work is litigation with members regularly appearing in the County Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal as well as specialist tribunals, such as the Land Registration, Tax and Residential Property Chambers. Areas of work include, Commercial Litigation, Company, Financial Services and Consumer Credit, Insolvency (Corporate and Personal), Insurance, Landlord and Tenant, Professional Negligence, Real Property, Tax, Trusts and Wills and Estates


Court of Protection: The Health and Welfare Team represents all those involved in matters before the Court of Protection and regularly represents private individuals (including those acting on behalf of the Official Solicitor and litigation friends), Local Authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups and NHS Trusts both in section 21A and section 16 applications. The team is experienced in both interim and contested final hearings covering a range of issues including more complex matters such as sexual contact, jurisdictional disputes, and legal aid funding.


Criminal: The Criminal Team provide a comprehensive service from the earliest stage of proceedings right through to Appeals in the House of Lords. Members are instructed by most of the major defence solicitors in the North West as well as by the Crown Prosecution Service, HM Revenue and Customs, The Asset Recovery Agency and Serious Organised Crime Agency. Members also specialise in such areas as cash seizure and other ancillary orders such as Anti-Social Behaviour Orders and Sex Offender Orders.


Regulatory and Professional Discipline: The Group has a strong reputation in prosecuting healthcare disciplinary proceedings, particularly on behalf of the GMC before Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service Tribunals, and in defending clients at Police Disciplinary proceedings. Regulatory work covers the full spectrum of health and safety legislation, environmental enforcement, appealing prohibition and improvement notices, cases involving complex financial sentencing considerations, appeals and administrative review.


Family: The Family Team offer a wealth of experience in all areas of Family and Child-Care Law and related work, giving expert advice and representation in both the Public and Private law jurisdictions. All our practitioners are members of the Family Law Bar Association and keep abreast of the latest developments. Work undertaken includes Adoption, Ancillary Relief, Appeals, Care Proceedings, Child Abduction, Cohabitee’s Property Disputes, Contact and Residence.


Inquests and Public Inquires: The team takes pride in their approachable manner when dealing with sensitive and emotionally difficult cases, guiding, and advising clients throughout proceedings before and the coroner and thereafter as required.


Mediation: Mediation is now a core element of the dispute resolution landscape. Our Mediators work across a wide range of areas Construction, Contract, Employment, Inheritance Act and probate, Insolvency, Landlord and Tenant, Partnerships, Property, Shareholders, Trusts
