Band 1

1 Banco ChambersDispute Resolution: The Bar2026 | Band 1 | 12 Years RankedBanco Chambers is noted for having attracted some of Australia's leading junior barristers, in addition to a core of established and respected silks. With a current complement of 65 barristers, it is especially well resourced when it comes to providing advice or advocacy on competition, equity or public law issues, and is also home to significant expertise in the areas of construction, defamation and insolvency. One source reports: “If I have a matter in Sydney and I'm not sure who to brief, I usually start by looking at Banco, and only rarely would I need to go outside of it.” Another remarks: “We brief Banco more heavily than any other chambers, which is a function of the commerciality of the barristers.” Many members possess appellate experience or have acted as arbitration counsel or arbitrators in both domestic and international cases. The set is also “constantly bringing through excellent readers and juniors,” according to another interviewee. Clerk Jeh Coutinho is a key contact for all enquiries.
