Yang Wang is a Partner in the Beijing office of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and a leading practitioner in private equity and M&A transactions in Asia, with a strong focus on Greater China. He represents private equity funds and corporate clients on complex cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, corporate finance transactions and other general corporate matters. Yang has advised Apax, Blackstone, Hillhouse, KKR, Macquarie, PAG, Primavera, Warburg Pincus and their respective portfolio companies in leveraged buy-outs and private equity investments of over US$40 billion in the aggregate, Alibaba Group, Ant Group and participants in their ecosystem in strategic investment and corporate finance transactions of over US$40 billion in the aggregate, various China state-owned enterprises in outbound investment transactions of over US$30 billion in the aggregate, and many other major investment and strategic transactions involving Greater China. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English, and used to be fluent in C++ and Java from his previous career as a computer programmer.
Yang has been recognized as a “Band 1” practitioner in Corporate/M&A (China-based International Firms) by Chambers, rated as “Highly Regarded” by IFLR1000, and credited with at least one “Deal of the Year” every year in the past decade by various publications and agencies. He was also named “Private Equity: Foreign Firms Lawyer of the Year” by the Legal 500 China awards in both 2024 and 2025.
