William specialises in catastrophic personal injury and clinical negligence work. He has a special interest in quantum and is the general editor of Schedules of Loss: Calculating Damages, 4th edn, Bloomsbury, the leading practitioner text on schedules of loss. He is the current chairman of the Ogden Working Party who produce tables used by all judges and practitioners to calculate damages and is the general editor of Sweet & Maxwell's Facts & Figures. William was instructed by the claimant in the highest court award ever made in the case of Robshaw (capitalised value c£14.5m at 2.5%; £24.5m at -0.25% or £27.4m at -0.75%). He has also appeared in numerous other high profile quantum cases including A v Powys (£10.7m); Totham (£10.1m); Farrugia v MIB (£9.7m) and XXX v Strategic HA (£9.4m). In addition William undertakes liability work, particularly involving complex causation or medical issues, such as the successful 16-day liability trial of Coakley v Dr Rosie. William won Chambers and Partners’ PI Junior of the Year in 2008 and 2010, and Silk of the Year in 2018.
