William G. Horton is a leading arbitrator of Canadian and international business disputes. He has arbitrated over 150 substantial commercial disputes involving a wide range of subject matter including international transactions, mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure and construction, energy, extractive industries, telecommunications, government procurement, public private partnerships, and rate setting. His previous commercial and international litigation practice as head of litigation at two national Canadian law firms has contributed to his deep understanding of business disputes and the adversarial process.
Career
Bill Horton is particularly well known for his expertise in ad hoc arbitration, but has often served as chair, sole arbitrator or party appointee under many institutional arbitration rules including ICC, ICDR, LCIA, SCC and ADRIC. He has contributed to the growth and improvement of commercial arbitration in many roles. He served on the NAFTA 2022 Committee, the Executive Committee of ICC Canada, the CPR Institute Rules Committee, and as the creator and principal instructor of the Gold Standard Commercial Arbitration Course presented by the Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society. He currently leads the ADR Institute of Canada’s Arbitration Modernization Project.
Among other recognitions, Bill Horton has been awarded the Ontario Bar Association Award of Excellence in Dispute Resolution.
