Michael Osborne is Chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Canadian Competition Practice based in Toronto. He advises clients on the full scope of Canadian competition and antitrust law, including merger review, cartel investigations, abuse of dominance, marketing and advertising matters, and price-fixing class actions. He also represents businesses in foreign investment reviews under the Investment Canada Act and in trade remedy proceedings involving customs, import, and trade regulatory enforcement.
Michael represents leading Canadian and multinational companies across various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, banking, technology, and industrial markets in high-stakes regulatory reviews and competition litigation. He is qualified as an arbitrator and has appeared before the Competition Tribunal of Canada, as well as domestic and international arbitral tribunals, and at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
With more than 25 years of experience, Michael has built a leading Canadian practice focused on competition law, antitrust litigation, foreign investment regulation, and cross-border regulatory compliance. He is frequently retained for complex mergers and acquisitions that require Competition or Investment Canada Act clearance, as well as high-risk compliance reviews, cartel and class-action defense, and matters involving trade remedies and import regulations. His work spans clients and transactions across North America, Asia, and Europe, reflecting his role in managing global competition and foreign investment risk.
Michael is also a recognized contributor to thought leadership in competition law. He regularly publishes on developments in Canadian competition law, foreign investment review, and trade-remedy enforcement in leading legal and industry publications.
