Steven Weisz is a member at Cozen O’Connor LLP, focusing his practice on commercial litigation and insolvency law. A trusted advisor in complex domestic and multinational insolvencies, he counsels clients on corporate restructurings, bankruptcy matters, distressed transactions, creditor-rights disputes, insolvency litigation, and proceedings under the CCAA and BIA. He also represents clients in receiverships, director-liability matters, and urgent restructuring situations involving financially distressed businesses.
He acts for purchasers of distressed debt and assets, debtors, directors, court-appointed officers, and major stakeholders of insolvent companies. Known for his pragmatic and cost-efficient approach, Steven is frequently retained to navigate multidimensional restructuring challenges that require both commercial judgment and coordinated legal strategy across multiple disciplines.
Before joining Cozen O’Connor LLP, Steven was a founding member of Weisz Fell Kour, a Toronto boutique focused exclusively on restructuring, litigation, and business law. Earlier in his career, he led the insolvency and restructuring group at a national law firm.
Steven is recognized as a leading insolvency and restructuring lawyer by Chambers and Partners, Lexpert, Best Lawyers, ILFR, and Who’s Who Legal. With over 30 years of experience, he has built a respected practice in commercial litigation and insolvency law. He advises a broad range of stakeholders on restructurings, distressed transactions, creditor-rights disputes, and financial-distress litigation.
Steven is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, serving on both its Social Media and Intervention Committees. He is also a frequent speaker at industry conferences and seminars on insolvency law and litigation issues. In addition to his professional practice, Steven participates in the mentoring program at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and serves as a guest lecturer in the LLM Commercial Law program at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Steven is actively involved in philanthropic and community initiatives. He supports the United Jewish Appeal, Prostate Cancer Canada, and the Bay Street Fore a Cause Foundation, which raises funds for underprivileged youth in the Greater Toronto Area. He is also a long-time participant and supporter of the Ride2ConquerCancer, a cycling event benefiting cancer research at Princess Margaret Hospital.
