Viola is a partner in Perkins Coie’s Patent practice focusing on prosecution and counseling in the chemical, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, biotechnology, immunotherapy, and medical device arenas. Viola is experienced in reexamination and appeal proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Her counseling activities include opinion work, freedom-to-operate, patentability, and due diligence evaluation. Prior to her legal experience, Viola was a development director and senior scientist where she gained broad industrial and R&D experience in formulation, assay development, in vitro diagnostics, protein and DNA interaction, lipid bilayer membrane, and molecular biology. She is an inventor of 21 US patents and has numerous publications in scientific journals.
