Career

Dr. Umut Kolcuoğlu is the Firm’s founder and managing partner. He was an associate lawyer in a major Istanbul-based law firm between 1998 and 2000 and then later on between 2003 and 2005. He was seconded to Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, New York in 2002. He also worked as a foreign associate at Hengeler Mueller in Frankfurt between 2005 and 2006 and subsequently founded the Firm in 2007.

Experience

Dr. Umut Kolcuoğlu has diverse experience and comparative knowledge in a wide range of M&A, finance and capital market transactions, as well as international commercial dispute resolution. He has represented leading private equities, multinational and local corporations, financial institutions and borrowers acting in numerous sectors. Umut also acts as expert witness in international arbitration proceedings involving corporate and commercial disputes between Turkish and international parties.

Umut has handled a wide range of finance transactions and represented leading local and international corporations and financial institutions acting as lenders or borrowers in transactions ranging from cross-border secured lending to financial restructurings and acquisition financing. During his 26 years in the legal sector, he has become a favourite of global and Turkish private equity houses and financial institutions, leveraging his knowledge in banking, finance, M&A, and capital markets.

He leads the Firm’s German desk. Aside from his legal practice, Umut serves as an independent board member of various companies.
