Practice Areas
A private client lawyer whose practice covers a wide range of work types for high net worth private clients, families and charities.  Areas of specialism include personal tax work, HMRC enquiries and disclosures, complex wills and succession planning, charity law, UK and non-UK trust and foundation laws, structuring and succession of owner-managed businesses, advising on family governance and creating and advising family offices.  
Chairs and has been a member of the Law Society’s Tax Law Committee (and Capital Taxes Sub-Committee) since 2009: frequently involved in HMRC and Treasury consultation processes on tax matters.  Was member of the Law Society’s Wills and Equity Committee between 1998 and 2009. With effect from July 2021, Stephen has been appointed to be joint chair of the Law Society’s Tax Law Committee.
Regular conference speaker, article writer and contributor to national and professional media on tax, trusts and charity law.
Stephen is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  He is co-founder and chair of Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, an award winning community development charity.  His is a non-executive director of Gloucestershire Gateway Limited, a new, innovative motorway services business on the M5.  He is also a non-executive director of Charterhouse Lombard, a fast growing independent trust company in the Isle of Man.  
Other industry-specific memberships include STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners), Hon. Fellow, Centre for International Legal Studies, Charity Law Association and ITPA (International Tax Planning Association).
