Stephen acts for a wide range of UK property professionals, commercial and private equity clients in the real estate industry, including well known real estate funds, developers and propcos. He also acts for national housebuilders, trusts, estates and corporates involved in real estate disputes. High value dilapidations and contractual interpretation disputes, including representing clients' interests through the commercial court up to the Supreme Court, are a feature of his practice. Arbitrations (both domestic and international), mediations and cross border mandates are regularly undertaken. Stephen is also head of the firm's Litigation practice, comprising 26 partners and over 150 people in total. In this lead role, he sits on Brodies' operational management board. With a reputation gained from over 20 years’ experience of dealing with highly contentious and business critical matters for clients across Scotland, the UK and internationally, he specialises in solving contractual and asset-related disputes involving telecoms, energy (in particular oil and gas), real estate, infrastructure and finance issues. Commercial litigation, lease enforcement (including complex dilapidations and repairing issues) together with portfolio debt recovery are also part of his repertoire. International arbitration (through LCIA and ICC) is an active area of his practice for global clients.
