Career
Soorjya has over 18 years of experience in dispute resolution across civil, commercial and constitutional law matters. A large part of his practice includes arbitration (ad hoc and institutional). He has advised several multi-national entities during his stint as a litigator and arbitration counsel.
Soorjya represents his clients before the Supreme Court of India, several High Courts across the country, the National Company Law Tribunal, and other quasi-judicial authorities. He has been involved in several international and domestic arbitrations advising engineering giants in the power, automation, and infrastructure space and acted in international arbitrations under the rules of arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Paris, Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Singapore, International Cotton Association, U.K., and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), London.
Soorjya graduated from Symbiosis Law College, Pune, in 2003 and completed his LL.M. from the University of Bristol, U.K. Before joining the Firm, Soorjya was an independent counsel before the Original Side of the Calcutta High Court and has also worked with Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co in their litigation an arbitration practice.

Represented Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited before the Calcutta High Court.
Represented Tata Steel Limited, in their bid to acquire Rohit Ferro-Tech Limited through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Tata Steel Mining Limited, under the aegis of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
Advised Tega Industries Limited on its resolution plan for acquisition of McNally Sayaji Engineering Limited.
Advised McNally Bharat Engineering Corporation Limited in separate multi crore arbitrations against Government of India entities.
Advised Thermax Limited and Thermax Engineering and Construction Limited in disputes against an Indian listed company in the power generation and mining space.
Advised the Prysmian group of Italy, a multinational corporation and the world’s largest manufacturer of cables in a multi-million-dollar investment dispute with a listed Indian entity.
Advising Rohit Ferro-tech, a listed Indian mining conglomerate in an international arbitration against an Austrian company.
Advised Dongfang Electric Corporation of China which is amongst the top 15 EPC contractors in the world in disputes with the West Bengal Power Development Corporation in India seated ICC arbitration.
Advised ABB India Limited in several arbitrations and litigations across India.
Advised Bank of New York Mellon in disputes concerning FCCBs.
Advised the committee of creditors in the insolvency proceedings of Binani Cements Limited under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 in litigations from NCLT and all the way to the Supreme Court of India.
Advised the Resolution Professional and liquidator in the insolvency and liquidation proceedings of Concast Steel & Power Limited.
Advising Sterling & Wilson Private Limited in disputes with Oil India Limited.
