Simon is a founding partner of manner | masser. He specialises in dispute resolution, arbitration and litigation. He acts as counsel and arbitrator, and assists companies in navigating high-stakes disputes.
Simon combines many years of experience as in-house counsel in a globally operating company with his experience as an attorney in dispute resolution boutique firms. He has acted in numerous domestic and international arbitrations under various rules (including ICC, SCC, DIS, FAI, KCAB, GMAA, and ad hoc) and laws (including those of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Oman, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland), and with amounts in dispute up to EUR 160 million. Simon has handled construction, energy (gas and renewables), infrastructure, machinery, transportation, corporate law, post-M&A, information technology, and a variety of contract, trade and other commercial disputes. The arbitrations in which he has been involved concern state entities and private entities alike.
Simon is a delegate to the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, member of the Arbitrator Appointing Committee of ICC Germany, member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of International Arbitration, and board member of the Hamburg Arbitration Circle.
Career
Before founding manner | masser, Simon was principal at Manner Disputes, partner with Manner Spangenberg, and senior legal counsel with the Nordex Group, where he was globally responsible for handling the company’s disputes and negotiated numerous high-volume project contracts. Prior to his in-house role, he was senior associate with Hanefeld.
He holds law degrees from Germany (Freiburg) and Switzerland (Doctor of Laws, University of Basel, summa cum laude). He was a Research Assistant to Prof. Dr. Ingeborg Schwenzer, LL.M. (University of Basel) and Prof. Dr. Andreas Voßkuhle (University of Freiburg, former President of the German Federal Constitutional Court).
