Simon has wide-ranging experience in domestic courts, arbitrations, mediations and adjudications. Simon’s practice since 2016 has primarily comprised domestic and international arbitrations in UK, Hong Kong, Qatar and Oman. His practice covers all areas of Chambers’ work, including construction, engineering and infrastructure, energy and utilities, professional negligence and commercial disputes.
Notable cases include: Acting for the Government of Gibraltar in a claim related to the termination of a high-profile tunnel project under a FIDIC form of contract (OHL v Govt. of Gibraltar [2014] EWHC 1028); A long-running Middle East arbitration involving claims of several $bn concerning the termination of an engineering services contract; Acting as counsel in both domestic and international arbitrations for contractors constructing railways and tram systems; Appeal to the Privy Council concerning the proper interpretation of certain statutory provisions (Presidential Insurance v St. Hill [2012] UKPC 33); Representing a member of the FIFA Executive Committee in libel proceedings brought against a prominent politician (Makudi v Lord Triesman [2014] 3 All ER 36).
