Sergio Mannheimer has almost 40 years of practice in dispute resolution, including national and international arbitration. He has vast experience in complex dispute resolution, having worked on a multitude of the most important disputes in Brazil in the last years, related to matters such as commercial and corporate law, contracts, civil liability, administrative law, antitrust and competition, corporate restructuring and bankruptcy, election, environment, family and successions, insurance and reinsurance and real estate. Sergio Mannheimer represents clients from various sectors, including infrastructure, construction, energy, oil and gas, mining, financial markets, banking, technology and telecommunications, among others. He also acts as an arbitrator, included in the lists of Brazilian arbitral institutions.

Career

Sergio Mannnheimer's holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), 1983. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Law (Legum Magister – LL. M.), Heidelberg School of Law – Ruprecht-Karls Universität – Germany, 1992.

Besides his practice as a lawyer and arbitrator, Sergio Mannheimer is a retired public attorney for the State of Rio de Janeiro (1985-2018), where he worked in the offices of the Attorney of Labor, Administrative Attorney, Attorney of Public Services and Attorney of Probate. Member of the Support Group for the State Reform. Chief Legal Advisor and subsequently Superintendent of the Office of the State Secretary of Science and Technology for the State of Rio de Janeiro (1987-1991). Commissioner of the Public Services Regulatory Agency for the State of Rio de Janeiro – ASEP-RJ (1997-1998). Lecturer at the School of the Public Prosecutors’ Office – FEMPERJ (1996). Lecturer of Civil Law for the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ (2001-2004). Lecturer of Regulatory Agencies in the specialization course on administrative law organized by the Rio de Janeiro Federal University – UFF (2004). Invited professor of the School for Judges of the State of Rio de Janeiro – EMERJ. Effective Councilor of the Brazilian Bar Association, Rio de Janeiro Chapter (2001-2003).

Member of the Board of the Brazil-Germany Chamber of Commerce and Industry – AHK, a position that had already been previously held between 2012 and 2014. Director of the Brazil- Germany Chamber of Commerce and Industry – AHK (2014-2019). Recommended Lawyer (“Vertrauensanwalt”) of the German General Consulate in Rio de Janeiro. Presided the work group created by the Rio de Janeiro State’s Public Attorney General to regulate the use of arbitration by the State of Rio de Janeiro (2017-2018).

Member of the Center for Studies for Attorney Partnerships (CESA) since 2003, being a part of the sub-committees on Regulatory Agencies and Arbitration. Member of the International Bar Association (IBA), since 2010.Member of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr), since 2014. Member of the Brazil-Germany Chamber of Commerce and Industry – AHK.

Editor of the XVIII Volume of the Rio de Janeiro State’s Solicitors’ Law Journal on Arbitration Law, 2006. Editor of the XXVI Volume of the Rio de Janeiro State’s Solicitors’ Law Journal on Arbitration in the Public Sector, 2016. Co-author of the book “Novos Temas de Arbitragem” (“New Themes on Arbitration” – FGV, 2014). Co-author of the book “General Theory of Arbitration” (“Teoria Geral da Arbitragem” – Editora Forense, 2019). Author of more than 30 articles on civil law, administrative law and arbitration in national and international publications.

Member of the board of the ORT Technology Institute, since 2009 and of the Jewish Welfare Union (União – Associação Beneficiente Israelita), since 1990. Participated as arbitrator in various national and international competitions, since 2017. Fluent in English, German, French. Good knowledge of Spanish. Basic knowledge of Hebrew.
