Practice Areas

Sean focuses on all facets of construction litigation and transactions, helping engineers, architects, contractors, subcontractors, and other commercial entities navigate complex construction and design projects. He helps his clients identify potential issues before they evolve, and he uses creative approaches to resolve disputes when they arise.

A strong advocate for his clients, Sean has years of experience leading parties through challenging situations. His practice includes breach of contract, delay and disruption claims, design and construction-defect claims, bond claims, and mechanics lien disputes, among others. He has litigated dozens of commercial matters on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants.

Clients also rely on Sean to draft and negotiate complex construction agreements for projects of all shapes and sizes. Sean has drafted contracts for projects in excess of $50 million, and he has assisted clients in preparing contract documents before, during, and after project completion.

Career

With his boots-on-the-ground experience, Sean understands the difference between how things are done in the field versus how they are litigated in the courtroom. Sean applies this knowledge to benefit his current clients, using this framework to build trust with clients, judges and neutrals, and opposing counsel. His background allows him to quickly get up to speed on complex issues and facilitates impactful conversations with clients to ensure all details are identified and argued effectively.

Sean began his career as general counsel for a Chicagoland general contractor, providing him with a firsthand perspective on both the business of construction as well as its legal issues. Prior to joining Much, Sean practiced for over nine years defending clients in construction and design disputes. He served as defense counsel in issues ranging from personal injury to insurance matters to complex construction defect and commercial litigation.
