Seamus Duffy co-leads Akin’s national class actions practice and has more than 30 years of experience representing companies in class actions in federal and state courts. He brings a depth of knowledge and experience and a thoughtful, strategic approach to bet-the-company litigation.
Seamus is a nationally recognized authority in the defense of aggregate litigation. He has been an architect of strategies to defeat class certification and has obtained favorable results across the country on a host of claims, including unfair or deceptive business practices; false advertising; marketing and labeling; mass tort/product liability/product defect; unfair competition; and emerging risks, regulatory and compliance issues in the privacy arena. He regularly advises companies and investors on aggregate litigation risk in the U.S., and strategic risk management.
Additionally, Seamus is one of the country’s chief proponents of consumer arbitration agreements. He regularly counsels businesses on consumer arbitration agreements and successfully defends their enforceability in courts across the country. He has also been called upon to testify in legislative chambers concerning the benefits of arbitration.
